FALL SHOWCASE WORKSHOPS for 2010

Who are workshops appropriate for?  All levels experienced beginner through pro !!!

IFRIDAY - Located at the Fairgrounds event site - NOTE: No vending or dancing Friday, but hot hot workshops!                    

• 5:45-7:15 Workshop - Shireem & Sheena (TX) - New Zealand Maori Poi Ball Tricks - learn the techniques that apply to the hottest new thing nationally in both fire and veil dancing: Poi! - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 7:30- 9:00 Workshop - Saqra (WA) - Banat Mazin Ghawazee - Egyptian street/wedding performer dancing. History, costuming, steps. Great for ethnic specialty soloist or tribal group - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door

SATURDAY  - Located at the Fairgrounds event site                                    

• 9:00-10:30 Workshop - Jawahir Bahia (CO) - Drrrrrum Solo! - Drill isolations, pops, locks & shimmies and tie them all together into a drum solo choreography! We will talk about the elements of drum solo itself and about movements that make sense. - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 10:30-Noon Workshop - Salome (OR) - "Spins and Turns" - Spotting technique, pivots, paddle spin, chainne turns, pirouettes, hook turns, hesitation turns... traveling steps, and layering Oriental movements and stylization to spins and turns. Dancers are encouraged to bring dance 'paws', ballet slippers or any kind of footwear intended for dancing, to help protect the feet while practicing rotations. - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 1:00-2:30 Workshop -  Dunyah al Hanna (OR) - "Habbitek B'Jnoon," a choreography to this traditional Bedouin piece as performed by Hossam Ramzy. Steps can be stylized for a folkloric troupe or modified for a cabaret solo.- $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 3:00- 4:30 Workshop - Karla (OR) - Gypsy Mystique: shawls, fans, skirts and attitudes.- $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 5:30-7 - Oberon (OR) - Emotional Veil #2 - Veil can be 3 to 5 minutes of your routine. In this wokshop we will "Kiss" and expand on, 5 core veil movements and the transition movement between them. The workshop will also highlight some single dramatic movement and it's placement and use to showcase the music. Please bring veils (Tee Hee). All levels welcome:) Hand-outs included as usual- $25 pre-reg/$30 at door

SATURDAY HOTEL WORKSHOPS - Located at the B Hotel (formerly the Red Lion -- across the street from the event site):                    

• 9-10:30  Workshop - Natasha (OR) - "Phenomenal Floor Work"- Various ways to get down to and up from the floor, and a variety of movements ranging from simple to difficult that you can execute on the ground.- $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 11:00-12:30 Workshop - Ayesha (OR) - Finger Cymbals Made Fun & Easy! Start with the basics for those new to zils and then work up to more challenging patterns with step combinations. All levels welcome.- $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 1-2:30 Workshop -Yasmin (ID) - Dances from Afghanistan - From the harsh landscapes of Afghanistan, we will learn the Logari and Herati.  We will explore the costume, music and moves. Logari is famous for their "Stop" dance. Good for all levels. - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door       
• 3:00-4:30 Workshop -Sedona (OR) - Fan Veils - Plenty of fan veils available for in class use. - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door            
• 5:30-7 Workshop -Sidonia Om Dunya (ID) - Rhythm Recognition - Dancers should be acquainted with the basic rhythms. Knowing these makes it so much easier to dance to live music. We will learn how to modify step combos and explore movements compatible with each rhythm.                     An award winning performer, her multi-cultural life and dance experiences have created Sidonia's Classic Style with a contemporary twist.   She has an amazing gift of stage presence along with powerful technical skill. She has been a popular workshop instructor in the greater Pacific Northwest because of her ability to clearly explain concepts and techniques for all levels.    Considered a Goddess of Bellydance, Sidonia's style oozes with femininity and warmth.- $25 pre-reg/$30 at door

• 9:00-10:30 Workshop - Saqra (WA) - Sha'abi Workout - Insanely Fun Egyptian Nightclub Dancing    - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door       
• 10:30-Noon Workshop - Shireem & Sheena (TX) - Hot Tahitian: for Fusion or Fiery Belly Dance Flash!  Tahitian story telling with the hands and hips.  "Aparima" . How to do the perfect "Ami!"- $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 12:15-1:45 Workshop -Mezdulene (OR) - Hypnotic Hands & Arms - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
• 2-3:30 Workshop  - Rafi'ah (CO) - Magical & expressive slow moves...Tap into a liquid sensuality that not only looks magical but feels good as well. Slow, slinky moves with mesmerizing arms, undulating torsos, soft vibrations and dramatic accents. Find the core  muscles that create a fluid, slithery quality and where to put these types of movements. - $25 pre-reg/$30 at door
